CRE Loaded & Barclays ePDQ: Warning

Posted by Don Campbell On July 5, 2010 Comments Off

If you are a merchant whose supplying bank for online transactions is Barclays, you will have heard mention of their e-payments system (payment gateway) ePDQ.

ePDQ is a payment gateway setup by Barclays to enable online payment processing via your ecommerce website.

CRE Loaded doesn’t have native ePDQ functionality and a recent request for a quote from a leading CRE Loaded module developer suggests that the price for such a thing would be between $200 and $250, which is of course fine, but if you need an out-of-the-box solution that is ready to go with ePDQ, it needs to be considered before you buy CRE Loaded.

Of all the possible suppliers CRE Loaded could have chosen to write a payment module for, ePDQ is not one of them, which isolates a large portion of the UK ecommerce population and seems a bit of an odd decision, unless of course we really are a tiny insignificant Island of little or no value to them.

Nonetheless, it’s better to know these things, isn’t it.

X-Cart has one already built-in and MagentoConnect makes available a module for Magento too, which is free, so my thought would be to have a look at one of these two when you’re shopping around for an ecommerce solution, if you are a Barclays ePDQ user.
